Roses are red, violets are blue, I like you because you are you.

Can't get enough of roses. First I got some, pink and yellow. Then we celebrated book and rose day (or as Wikipedia puts it, World book day) at the library on Monday, when it was the name day of Ruusu (rose in Finnish). We got lots of roses from local garden to give away to customers and there were an exhibition about rose varietes (there was one called "Green tea", too!) as well. These photos were taken today, still most of the roses are doing fine :D Big white rose below is called "Avalanche".

This week has been ultimately busy, we have lots of events for children (puppet theatre, fairy tale hours) and organising everything just takes all the energy. I'm still a bit sick, so in the evenings I fall asleep before 10...But all the others seem to be sick at work as well, no fever, but coughing and sneezing. What is this weird disease that seems to last for too long!

Last week was first of May, in Finland known as Vappu. Lots of people getting drunk, having kind of festival mood although it's not even warm yet :) Guess how I spent my day? Playing Left 4 Dead of course! It was free for vappu day, so I downloaded it and shoot zombies the whole day. No alcohol, no party mood, no friends, nothing social, just me and my headphones and keyboard. I was feeling quite sick that day too, so I didn't want to go out at all. But besides that I also read lots of books, knitted, made funny faces with Juha (Rubik balloon was the only one we had!) and stood in sunlight.

Some book recommendations -> Guy Delisle's Merkintöjä Burmasta (Burma Chronicles in English), Olimme kuluttajia by Roope Mokka and Aleksi Neuvonen (only in Finnish) and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Puolikas keltaista aurinkoa (Half of a Yellow Sun in English).

I'm trying to gather my strength, next week I'll be working also on Saturday with first class elementary school children :D

I also finished one it-looks-almost-like-a-hat, originally called Spring Beret. Good for those days when I'm too lazy to comb my hair. Thank you Ravelry for giving me endless patterns of beautiful stuff to knit!

That's all. I hope that great success meets everyone and life is good.

  1. I love yellow and white roses. They are my all time favorites.

In country side in my country, I had 4 bushes which I planted myself and they were just amazing big flowers. Now there lives my grandmother and have no idea is takes care of them.

  2. Own rosebushes, that would be so nice :) I hope your grandmother takes care of them! I really liked one rose, which was white with a hint of green (it was called "Green tea"), the colour was just so beautiful!
